Platinum Keys are the rarest currency in SimCity BuildIt. You don't start with any but you can acquire them from Contest of Mayors, Event tracks, the Golden Chest, Design Challenges and Club Wars. Contest of Mayors is the best way to get lots of Platinum Keys. Platinum keys are the only currency that cannot be purchased using SimCash. If you don’t have enough Platinum Keys to purchase a building, you won’t be able to preview it.

Platinum Keys are used to buy powerful specialization buildings and upgrade disasters.

Trivia

The interior diamond looking part of the key is the same shape as a plumbob.

The exterior top part of the key also looks like a plumbob.
