Residential Buildings are where you can place homes for Sims. They are unlocked at level 1 and every building is free to build. There are 14 types of Residential Buildings, each having different population, service demand, and requirements. At the top you can see the total number of residential buildings you have, the number of abandoned buildings you have, the number of buildings ready for upgrade, and the number of Epic Buildings you have. When on the residential buildings tab, all your residential buildings will be highlighted and you can move them around your city.

Placing a residential building[]

You can choose the type of residential building you want to build and then drag it onto the land. Tap the checkmark and the building will be placed. Once placed, a construction plot will appear with a hard hat over it.

Upgrading a residential building[]

You can upgrade a residential building by tapping the hard hat. It will show the required items and the rewards you get for upgrading it. If you are unhappy with the required items, you can refresh the building plans or transfer the hard hat to another building, which each take 30 minutes to change. Once you have the required items, you can drag them onto the zone and it will begin upgrading. A scaffolding animation will then appear, surrounding the building for a few seconds to upgrade, after which your newly upgraded building will appear. It will have fireworks for a few seconds after completion and you will receive experience points and simoleons. The population of the building will not go down during the upgrade and once the upgrade is complete, new residents will be added instantly.
